Yu Huang

Yu, M.D., M.S. in computer science, was a Sr. Principal Software Engineer (from May 2009 to Dec. 2021) at Argonne National Lab (from 2004 - 2021) with demonstrated tracking records in data analytics, data & software engineering, and machine learning in biomedical field, industry, university and national lab.

1. 1. Machine learning:
• (a) Collaborated with colleages in Argonne in studying electronic health records (EHR) using deep learning and NLP methods.
• (b) Authored and submitted a research proposal on machine learning in synthetic biology.
• (c) Authored articles on explainable machine learning and deep learning in Towards Data Science
• (d) Used common machine learning and deep learning libraries such as Scikit-Learn, Keras with TensorFlow, etc.


2. 2. Data analytics:
• (a) Established and developed APS data analytical infrastructure/platform, using SAP Business Intelligence (e.g., BusinessObjects, Universe Designer) Universes and Objects, Data Warehourse, ETL pipelines, etc.
• Built and maintained servers, user accounts, SAP Business Intelligence universes, reports, etc.
• Extensive working experiences in using SAP Business Intelligence (Universe Designer, BusinessObjects) software to design Universes and Objects for data Analytics and data visualization.
• (b) Extensive working experiences in data science stack (Python, Numpy, Pandas, Matplotlib, Jupyter Notebook, etc.), SQL and PLSQL, Oracle database, and data warehouse
• (c) Responsible for generating APS scientific user facility annual report for DOE (Department of Energy) and other decision making reports for Argonne National Laboratory management.


3. 3. Software development
• (a) Played a leading role in monitoring and selecting modern technologies for software development.
• (b) Applied modern technologies, especially open source tools to software development at Photon Science scientific user facility in Argonne National Laboratory: React Mobile App, JavaScript framework (angular, react.js/react native.js, node.js, expo, etc.), API development using Docker micro-services, Python, Flask, Nginx, Gunicorn, etc.
• (c) Responsible for whole software development life cycle (with agile process): project planning, software requirements gathering, analysis, design, development (coding), testing, deployment, and maintenance.

5. 5. Achievements:
• (a) Yu Received multiple Argonne national lab Pacesetter and Impact Argonne Awards in the past seventeen years for the outstanding work in data analytics, business intelligence, data engineering, and software development.
• (b) Yu was an active member of Argonne Women in Science and Technology (Steering Committee Member since 2014).

Yu was a Technical Analyst at the University of Illinois (from 2002 - 2004) for the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) & Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) Project.

• (a) Participated in the design, implementation, and testing of The University of Illinois ERP application system (Banner 2000).
• (b) Participated in the EAI implementation of The University of Illinois student recruiting and admission system and tested enterprise Data Warehouse reports.
• (c) Technologies/languages/tools used: Data mapping and ETL processes (PLSQL, SQL Loader, TOAD), Web Services, JMS, Java, Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, SAP BI software (BusinessObjects, Webi), etc.

Yu was a Member of Technical Staff (MTS) at Lucent Technologies (from 2000 - 2001).

• (a) Led the evaluation and prototyping of distributed computing technologies (EJB, CORBA, RMI) for the development of Soft Switch Programmable Feature Server (SPFS)
• (b) Analyzed, designed and implemented application framework using Java RMI.
• (c) Created software analysis, design, and implementation documents using Rational Rose and UML.
• (d) Implemented Java Telephony API (JTAPI) application programs using Java AWT and Swing GUI package.
• (e) Served as Primary customer interface and technical support for LSS API.
• (f) Led the evaluation of a test automation tool based on XML and CORBA technologies.
• (g) Enhanced the GUI (AWT and Swing) of a XML 3-tier test automation systemby Java Servlets, JDBC, SQL, and Oracle DB.

Yu was a Sr. Biological & Medical Researcher at The University of Chicago Biological Science Division / Medicine / UC Hospital
Departments: Pharmacology, Immunology and Neurology (from 1996 - 2000)

• (a) Operated and managed a clinical immunology lab. Generated and handled clinical lab reports.
• (b) Studied Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) disease, the mechanisms of drug regulation on ion channels of cell membrane etc., with molecular biology techniques: Gene Clone and Engineering, PCR, Western blot, RNA microinjection techniques, DNA, RNA and Protein sequencing & analysis and cell culture, etc.
• (c) Extensively utilized NIH GenBank database, BLAST, FASTA, etc. software for DNA, RNA and Protein sequence analysis.
• (d) Taught undergraduate lab courses, e.g., physiology lab.
• (e) Co-authored academic article publication in the Visual Computer, International Journal of Computer Graphics.
